An adventure vacation is a sure way to get away from the stresses of modern life. However, most people's vacations aren't as stress-free because they have to deal with one thing: packing.
Many people struggle with packing for a vacation because they spend so much time deciding what to bring only to discover that these exact items will not be used at all during the trip! So, to alleviate the stress caused by the prospect of leaving your impending work and schedule for a vacation, here are some helpful packing tips for you. To make packing for an adventure vacation easier, gather all of the items you intend to bring and divide them into "what to bring" and "what not to bring" sections. This will make your elimination process easier and more efficient.
WHAT TO BRING
- Clothing items. This is regarded as the most important aspect of packing, which is why many people struggle with it. When packing for an adventure vacation, keep in mind that you should only bring clothes that you can use. To begin, decide on the type of adventure vacation you want to take.
Consider the destination and the climate to determine what clothing you will require during your stay. If you're going somewhere that includes visits to beaches and other natural wonders, bring light, cotton clothing because the weather can be hot and humid. If you are going to a vacation destination with cold weather, bring a jacket or other pieces of clothing that will protect your body.
When deciding what clothes to bring, stick to a single color theme so you don't have to bring a bunch of items just to match your clothes. Choose clothes with fabrics that do not crumple or wrinkle easily. (TIP: For vacation destinations, it is best to bring thermal underwear rather than heavy jackets and coats to save space. For tropical climates, choose clothing that can be layered and serves multiple functions, such as a sarong.)
It is best to bring only two pairs of shoes: one pair of closed shoes and one pair of flip flops. If you are going on a vacation cruise, bring clothing for both formal and casual occasions.
- A warning. This is especially important if you are traveling to a location with a time difference. It's also a good idea to bring a travel alarm so you don't miss out on anything because you were late. (TIP: Bring a device that can function as an alarm clock, such as cellular phones, PSPs, or other handheld devices.)
- Medicine. Medication, especially if prescribed, should be taken seriously. If you need prescription medications, make sure you bring enough to last the duration of your trip. If you are traveling abroad, you must bring a copy of your prescription to ensure that you are not bringing in illegal drugs. Always bring a first aid kit with you if you are not taking any prescription medications.
- Personal care items. Shampoos, lotions, liquid soaps, and other toiletries are usually available at the hotel, but if you prefer your own brand, keep it in small bottles and keep it to a minimum. (TIP: Put toiletries in zip locks so they don't contaminate other items if they leak due to air pressure.)
- Cash and credit cards are accepted. If you prefer to bring cash, keep it to a minimum to avoid problems with security. It is always a good idea to bring international credit cards with you on an adventure vacation.
(TIP: Bring two in case the ATM eats one, breaks one, or is lost.)
